Educational goals

The aim of the degree program is to prepare students for future scientific research and academic activities or managerial activities in research institutions, financial, consulting, industrial, public or non-profit organizations. Students will gain knowledge in the field of implementation of scientific and research projects and the methodology of research work, which is related to the ability to solve a specific research task, including the processing and publication of research results. Within the program, students will also gain advanced knowledge of economics, key areas of management and business economics and other advanced economic disciplines. The aim is to develop and intensively strengthen the ability of independent decision-making based on critical evaluation of materials and critical discussion using professional argumentation, develop and consolidate professional language skills, especially in English, and use appropriate mathematical-statistical methods and professional software. Based on the acquired knowledge and skills, the graduate will be able to independently develop systemic disciplines and solve independent research problems and related scientific research questions.

Admission requirements

The condition for admission to study is completing studies in the Master's degree program. The applicant attaches to the application for Doctoral studies approx. 10-page long research essay detailing the selected research topic from the list suggested by the Supervisor. Other mandatory documents are curriculum vitae, evidence of completed education, a list of research publications, and the Supervisor's consent to the applicant's supervision. The Supervisor's consent can be obtained only after the online or in-person meeting. The faculty representatives, approved by the Doctoral program committee, verify the candidate's preconditions for scientific work in the given scientific field. The committee assesses individual applicants in terms of input materials (especially essays - in terms of goal formulation, the dissertation's contribution to theory and knowledge, level of problem formulation, quality of processing and quality of previous publications). As part of the admission procedure, knowledge of the English language is verified, which must correspond to at least level B2 according to the European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). The student can also prove his/her knowledge of English with a certificate (e.g., TOEFL, FCE, CAE, CPE) at least at level B2, according to CEFR. Graduate profile

The graduate of the doctoral degree program Economics and Management has the key knowledge and skills necessary for basic research and advanced analytical and managerial activities in the field of economic theory, management and business economics and, according to the focus of the dissertation, will deepen knowledge in corporate finance, marketing and consumer behavior as well as knowledge management corresponding to the current state of knowledge. The graduate can identify current development trends and changes within individual disciplines and the progress of basic or applied research or managerial practice in developing these disciplines. Depending on the type of a degree program, the student can identify, classify and interpret economic data to an appropriate extent, including explicit and implicit assumptions. The graduate is able to apply key concepts of mathematical-statistical analysis, methods and quantitative and qualitative data analysis. The graduate can also use modern information technology and software support for administrative and analytical work. The graduate is qualified to work as a researcher in basic or applied research at universities or research institutions, or in senior management positions in financial institutions, industry or the non-profit sector.

Expected career prospects

Concerning the type of a degree program and its characteristics, it can be stated that the graduate will work mainly as a research and development employee in development departments of industrial companies, as a qualified project manager, process and product team manager or as a specialized manager consultant for the process and industrial engineering. Due to the requirements of industrial production for the decade 2020-2030, the study should meet the criteria for user knowledge and training design, management and optimization of automated and digitized production and support processes, production team management, technological concepts represented by the introduction of collaborative robots, basic 3D printing techniques, security analysis integrated production systems or virtual reality operators. It is these requirements of new professions that will be highly valued in the period for which graduates will be prepared.
