Educational goals

The aim of the degree program is to prepare students for their future research or management activities in academia, research institutions, financial, consulting, industrial or non-profit organizations and public sector organizations. Students will gain advanced knowledge in economics and in key areas of financial management, financial markets, public finance and international aspects of tax systems and accounting according to the focus of the dissertation. The aim is to develop and intensively strengthen the ability to make independent decisions based on critical evaluation of materials and critical discussion using professional argumentation, to develop and consolidate professional language skills, especially in English, and to use appropriate mathematical-statistical methods and professional software. Thanks to the knowledge mentioned above and skills, the graduate will gain the prerequisites for the development of systemic disciplines and the solution of research problems and related scientific research questions. Emphasis is placed on the ability to independently solve a research task and quality processing, presentation and publication of research results.

Admission requirements

The condition for admission to study is completing studies in the Master's degree program. The applicant attaches to the application for Doctoral studies approx. 10-page long research essay detailing the selected research topic from the list suggested by the Supervisor. Other mandatory documents are curriculum vitae, evidence of completed education, a list of research publications, and the Supervisor's consent to the applicant's supervision. The Supervisor's consent can be obtained only after the online or in-person meeting. The faculty representatives, approved by the Doctoral program committee, verify the candidate's preconditions for scientific work in the given scientific field. The committee assesses individual applicants in terms of input materials (especially essays - in terms of goal formulation, the dissertation's contribution to theory and knowledge, level of problem formulation, quality of processing and quality of previous publications). As part of the admission procedure, knowledge of the English language is verified, which must correspond to at least level B2 according to the European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). The student can also prove his/her knowledge of English with a certificate (e.g., TOEFL, FCE, CAE, CPE) at least at level B2, according to CEFR. Graduate profile

The graduate of the doctoral degree program Finance has the key knowledge and skills necessary for basic research and advanced analytical and managerial activities in the field of economic theory and managerial finance and, according to the focus of the dissertation, will deepen knowledge in monetary policy, financial markets and investments, advanced financial technologies or the international dimension of tax and accounting issues, corresponding to the current state of knowledge. They can identify key development trends in these areas and simultaneously set the required areas of scientific research activities that meet the requirements of basic or applied research or managerial practice. Depending on the type of a degree program, the student can identify, classify and interpret economic data to an appropriate extent, including explicit and implicit assumptions using key concepts of mathematical-statistical analysis and methods, quantitative and qualitative data analysis. The graduate can use current information technology and software support for administrative and analytical work. The graduate is qualified to work as a researcher in basic or applied research at universities or research institutions, or in senior management positions in financial institutions, industry or the non-profit sector and state and public institutions, such as heads of economics, controlling, internal audit, risk management, dealing, retail or private banking, or in the position of junior / senior consultants. It is used in manufacturing companies, non-profit organizations, banks, insurance companies, tax and accounting firms, audit and consulting companies, and state and public administration organizations (municipal, regional authorities, ministries).

Expected career prospects

Concerning the type of a degree program and its characteristics, the graduate is qualified to work as a researcher in basic or applied research at universities or research institutions, or in senior management positions in financial organizations, industry or non-profit sector and state and public institutions.
